A TIJ printer uses thermal inkjet technology to fire tiny droplets through a row of nozzles. The technology can be built into a portable device, but print quality always depends on the ink, the movement and the surface.

TIJ Printer: How Portable Thermal Inkjet Printing Works
The set-up
A stable surface and a finishing station organised around the real flow of service.
The artwork and the technique
An approved design, a compatible cartridge and a quality-checked result.

- A compatible cartridge and print head.
- Heating resistors that rapidly create a pressure bubble.
- A steady movement that positions the droplets.
How is a droplet formed?
An electrical pulse locally heats a tiny amount of ink inside the print head. A bubble forms, builds pressure and ejects a droplet through the nozzle. The cycle repeats extremely fast to compose text or an image.
The heat acts inside the print head; it does not “cook” the printed surface. The surface only receives the droplets the design calls for.
Why movement matters
On a portable device, a sensor tracks the movement. If your hand speeds up, slows down or changes height, the design can stretch or lose sharpness. A guide and a few test runs help you find a steady motion.
The Evebot Smart reduces positioning uncertainty thanks to its preview, but the surface must still stay stable.
Choosing the ink for the surface
TIJ describes a technology, not what the ink is intended for. For food or drinks, use only an edible cartridge that is explicitly compatible. Industrial ink is not suitable, even when used in a similar print head.
Common causes of print defects
- Surface too wet or too greasy.
- Print head partly dried out.
- Uneven hand movement.
- File too detailed for the print size.
- Cartridge badly fitted or not compatible.
Frequently asked questions
Does TIJ mean the ink is edible?
No. TIJ describes the thermal process. Food compliance depends on the cartridge and its declared use.
Do you need to preheat the printer?
No. Follow the priming and test steps specified by the manufacturer before service.
